Rostrevor student Domenic Giglio has combined his talent for contemporary music composition with his Year 12 Music Studies to write, record and produce his own single.

Left Behind (feat. Eleanor Meegan) has been produced in Rostrevor College’s stateof-the-art music studio and recently released on Spotify and Apple Music, attracting more than 12,000 hits.

Principal Brian Schumacher says contemporary, rock and traditional musical pursuits are well catered for at Rostrevor and he is proud that more than half of the College’s secondary students play an instrument.

“Rostrevor College holds a great reputation for academic and sporting success, but many do not realise how strong our music focus is,” Mr Schumacher says.

“This year, the College enjoyed unprecedented success at the Generations in Jazz Festival with numerous bands gaining top placings and individual awards for best drummer, saxophonist and guitarist.

The music studio, complete with 24-track control desk, has delivered great benefits to music students interested in sound recording, mixing and music composing.

Domenic has been guided by old scholars Thomas Roocke as Sound Engineer, and music and film producer Nelson Du Bois - who earlier this year composed the soundtrack for the feature film The Essence.

Mr Du Bois says Rostrevor music students are fortunate to have access to such highquality recording equipment that can help them advance to university studies and beyond.

“I don’t know of other schools with a studio as good as this one,” he says.

Domenic has been writing and recording music for several years and says he has been strongly encouraged by Rostrevor’s large music department headed by Peter Waterman. Mr Schumacher says a Rostrevor education focuses on each student’s individual strengths with many boys achieving “incredible results across academic, sporting and music fields”.

He says this personalised approach has contributed to academic success, whereby 30 per cent of eligible Rostrevor students attained an ATAR above 90 per cent in 2017.
